This book shows an in-depth analysis of Hieronymus Cock's print publishing company, one of the first in the North, and the place it has in art history.
Hiëronymus Cock was a master of many trades, being a painter as well as an engraver, he and his wife Volcken Diericx founded one of the first print publishing companies in the North. Starting in 1548 his publishing company 'In de Vier Winden' (In the Four Winds) published hundreds of important etches and engravings.
Hieronymus Cock is also known as the person who first recognized the talent of Pieter Bruegel, from whom he received over sixty designs for prints. It was also Hiëronymus Cock who decided to create engravings based on the fantastical and monumental compositions of Hiëronymus Bosch.
